Windowsill Produce

I came home from a weekend away to find that my chilies and tomatoes have started to ripen.
Sadly, I over-watered my chili a few months back and the leaves have started to drop off but hopefully it'll survive long enough for the other two chilies to ripen.

Does anyone know why my tomato leaves have gone purple?!

  1. I think it's lack of phosphorus -- they might need a feed, or they might just be feeling stressed because you went away.

Mine turned yellow when I over-watered them, by the way (I cut a drainage holes in the grobag and it solved it).

  2. ooh thanks Clare, good idea, I'll give them some food. And I won't be going away again for a while so hopefully they will feel less abandoned.

  3. Do they get stressed/sulk like children? Imagine them climbing out of their pots banging their roots on the floor...

  4. On reflection, I wonder if it's just an exaggerated normal autumn colour, they get a lot of sunlight don't they? Usually the bottom leaves go yellow & drop, nutrient lack usually makes them pale & weedy, not go mad with bright colours.
